The UAE's small and medium enterprises (SMEs) are proving their mettle once again, demonstrating remarkable adaptability in the face of economic challenges. While navigating rising operational costs, corporate tax implementation, and higher borrowing expenses, these business powerhouses continue to chart a course of steady growth and optimism.

RAKBank's newly released SME Confidence Index paints an encouraging picture for the sector. The comprehensive study, conducted in collaboration with RFI Global, surveyed more than 1,200 UAE-based SMEs between October and December 2024. The results show an overall confidence score of 57 - a slight dip from last year's 61 but still comfortably above the neutral benchmark of 50.

The findings reveal enduring optimism among business owners:

  • 68% view future business conditions favorably

  • Over 60% reported revenue growth in the past two years

  • Consumer and retail sectors lead with confidence score of 60

Construction/manufacturing (57), transport (57), and trading (58) maintain stable outlooks while professional services experience some softening due to cost pressures. 61% of surveyed businesses reported annual revenue increases - particularly strong among smaller SMEs with revenues under Dh30 million (confidence score:58). Larger enterprises showed slightly more caution at 55. Raheel Ahmed emphasized RAKBank's commitment: "As vital drivers of economic diversification..." 22% now sell online; nearly half use digital banking monthly 55% engaged or planning sustainability initiatives Vikas Suri noted moderated yet resilient confidence levels 92% accounts opened digitally; Dh10 billion SME exposure New Dh1 billion co-financing partnership announced Key takeaways: - Steady optimism despite cost pressures - Digital transformation accelerating - Government support programs proving valuable - Sector variations reflect market dynamics" This comprehensive snapshot demonstrates how UAE entrepreneurs are skillfully balancing challenges with innovation as they contribute significantly to national economic ambitions.
